Ring of Brodgar meaning

The Ring of Brodgar was built around 2500–2200 BC and stands within a wider ceremonial landscape rather than as an isolated circle. Its position between the lochs creates a natural boundary separating it from everyday space, suggesting gatherings rather than domestic activity.
Nearby paths, mounds and surrounding monuments show that the circle formed part of a much larger designed area.
The monument is normally understood together with the surrounding sites rather than on its own.
On the tour the circle is approached through the landscape so its position becomes clear.
Seeing how it relates to the land around it is what the tour focuses on.
