Skara Brae explained

Skara Brae is often described as a prehistoric village, but what matters is how complete it is. You are not looking at foundations — you are standing inside houses, with beds, cupboards and hearths still visible. It shows ordinary daily life from around 3000 BC rather than ritual or monument building.
The site also makes more sense in relation to the surrounding landscape rather than in isolation. Nearby monuments, water and natural routes through the land help explain why people lived here.
Skara Brae is normally visited together with the surrounding monuments rather than as a single stop.
On the tour the village is explained alongside the nearby stone circles and the landscape around it.
Visiting the site is interesting, but understanding why it sits here is what the tour focuses on.
